Team Canada selection camp to be held in Etobicoke

Ottawa, ON – May 17, 2017 – Thirty-five of Canada’s top ringette athletes will gather this weekend in Etobicoke in the hopes of securing a spot on Ringette Canada’s junior national team. Following the selection camp, which runs from May 18-22 at the MasterCard Centre (400 Kipling Avenue) in Etobicoke, athletes will continue to train for competition at the 2017 world ringette championship that will take place from November 27 to December 3, 2017 at Hershey Centre in Mississauga.

During the camp, there will be four inter-squad games that will be open to the public:

Friday, May 19: 6 pm
Saturday, May 20: 5 pm
Sunday, May 21: 2:30 pm
Monday, May 22: 9:30 am

Lorrie Horne (Sherwood Park, AB) leads the junior national team as head coach, along with assistant coaches Chris Belan (Calgary, AB), Jacinda Rolph (Stony Plain, AB), Andrea Ferguson (Winnipeg, MB), Danielle Hildebrand (Oakbank, MB) and Sarah Ianni (Walden, ON). Claudia Jetté (Saint-Laurent, QC) returns to the team as goalie consultant, and Melinda Krulicki (Red Deer) returns as athletic therapist. Nick Westcott (Ottawa, ON) is the strength and conditioning consultant for the entire National Team program and Stephanie Laurin (Kingston, ON) is the National Team Program Logistics and Team Services Manager.

Following the camp, athletes moving on to the next phase of selection will be announced by Tuesday, May 23rd. Athletes will continue to train for the upcoming world championship with training camps being held in Sherwood Park from September 1-3 and Mississauga from October 6-9.
