2018 Save-On-Foods Canadian Ringette Championships declared a True Sport event

Ottawa, ONMarch 26, 2018Ringette Canada today announced that the 2018 Save-On-Foods Canadian Ringette Championships has been declared a True Sport event. The event gets underway in Winnipeg, MB on April 8th with 47 teams from across the country competing for national titles in the U16 and U19 divisions, as well as the National Ringette League championship.

True Sport is dedicated to the notion that good sport can make a great difference. The seven True Sport Principles are: Go for It, Play Fair, Respect Others, Keep it Fun, Stay Healthy, Include Everyone and Give Back. Good sport happens when these seven principles are in play, in the right balance and proportion.

As a declared member, Ringette Canada is already committed to True Sport. By declaring the 2018 Save-On-Foods Canadian Ringette Championships a True Sport event, Ringette Canada aims to bring awareness to True Sport and show the Canadian sport community the culture of ringette and bring the value of good sport to ringette athletes, coaches, officials, associations and fans.

“We are very pleased to declare the 2018 Save-On-Foods Canadian Ringette Championships a True Sport event,” said Natasha Johnston, Executive Director, Ringette Canada. “The True Sport theme of the event will be “Go for It” and we are planning a number of activities as well as reaching out to our ringette community through our social media networks to bring the True Sport Principles to life.”

“Ringette Canada continues to be a leader in True Sport by demonstrating that values-based sport is a priority from the playground to the podium,” said Karri Dawson, Executive Director of the True Sport Foundation. “When sport is fun, fair and inclusive, we increase our chances for excellence at the elite level and Canadians and their communities reap the many benefits associated with positive sport experiences.”
