2019 World Ringette Championships Declared a True Sport Event

Ottawa, Ontario – November 19, 2019 – In recognition of the belief that good sport can make a great difference, Ringette Canada has declared the 2019 World Ringette Championships a True Sport event. Ringette Canada and True Sport share a common goal – to inspire youth to practice values-based and principle-driven sport.

The event gets underway in Burnaby, British Columbia on November 24 and runs until December 1. Seven countries will compete for world titles in the President’s, Junior and Sam Jacks divisions and teams, participants, coaches and officials are being urged to make their commitment to good sport official by joining True Sport.

“Ringette Canada continues to be a leader in the activation of True Sport at the national level. The 2019 World Ringette Championships is an incredible opportunity for them to share their commitment to good sport with the global ringette community,” said Karri Dawson, Senior Director, Quality Sport at the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. “Ringette Canada is a leader in providing values-based sport experiences; experiences that ultimately develop positive character, strengthen communities and increase opportunities for personal excellence.”

“We are very pleased to declare the 2019 World Ringette Championships a True Sport event and to empower our athletes, coaches and officials to live the True Sport Principles on and off the ice,” said Natasha Johnston, Executive Director, Ringette Canada. “We will be ensuring that the True Sport Principles are featured prominently by running a True Sport contest at the event and by reaching out to our ringette community through our social media networks.”
