2022 Canadian Ringette Championships Set for Calgary

OTTAWA, ON (June 22, 2021) – Ringette Canada is delighted to announce that Ringette Calgary, in partnership with Tourism Calgary, will host the next Canadian Ringette Championships (CRC) from April 3-9, 2022.

“We are so excited to make this announcement,” said Natasha Johnston, Executive Director of Ringette Canada. “Having the CRC confirmed for Calgary next April  will be a huge boost for so many ringette players, coaches and fans disappointed by the loss of both the 2020 and 2021 championships due to COVID-19. It’s a welcome reminder that there will be an end to the pandemic and that we can all look forward to being back together to celebrate our sport and our community.”

The 7-day event will be centered at Winsport and Seven Chiefs Sportsplex & Chief Jim Starlight Centre and will crown national champions in U16, U19 and National Ringette League divisions.  Many of the details have yet to be confirmed and will be based on public health guidelines.

“This is such good news for our club, our city and the entire ringette community across Canada,” added Erin Ashley, host committee co-chair . “First and foremost, we’re committed to doing whatever is necessary to host a safe event. That likely means a scaled down version of what we’ve experienced in the past with fewer ceremonies and social events. But we know the competition will be outstanding and it’ll be wonderful to see our ringette family coming together for CRC!”

“Attracting this event to Calgary is a testament to our city’s strategic approach to event bidding and our tremendous local champions,” said Jeff Daniels, Executive Director, Sport, Culture & Major Events, Tourism Calgary. “The over 1,000 participants of the 2022 Canadian Ringette Championships will stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants, and shop in our stores, generating a significant impact on our city’s $2 billion visitor economy.”

Johnston praised the flexibility, patience and commitment of event organizers who had qualified to host the 2021 event before plans were shelved by the onset of the global pandemic.

“Ringette Calgary and Tourism Calgary have already proven themselves to be amazing  partners and we’re confident that the 2022 championships will be exceptional,” she added. Further information about CRC 2022 will be shared in September as more details are finalized.
