Atlantic Attack posts exciting double overtime win over Cambridge Turbos at 2019 Credit Union Canadian Ringette Championships

Charlottetown/Summerside, PEI – April 11, 2019 – Atlantic Attack posted two wins in the National Ringette League (NRL) division today at the 2019 Credit Union Canadian Ringette Championshipsin Charlottetown/Summerside. In likely the most exciting game of the day, the Attack beat the Cambridge Turbos 5-4 in double overtime. Moncton’s Jenny Snowdon scored two goals and a pair of assists, including the overtime winner.

“This was a huge win for us. We knew it would be a tough one, but we played our game and played our systems,” said Snowdon right after the game. “We have two more games to play and we’ll take it one game at a time and see what happens from there. We are not looking too far ahead.”

In other NRL play, Edmonton WAM! beat Ottawa Ice 4-2 and Montreal Mission 5-4, while Calgary RATH downed Manitoba Intact 10-2 and Waterloo Wildfire 8-2. Montreal Mission broke Cambridge’s winning streak earlier in the day with a 4-3 win over the Turbos.

In the U16 division, Team Alberta (Calgary Impulse) is the only team left undefeated after downing Team Manitoba (Magic) 1-0 today. Airdrie’s Kennedy Rice continues to be a scoring phenom in the U16 division, with 23 points in six games. Her Zone 2 (AB) team beat the BVRA Angels (MB) 8-4, but lost 5-3 to Team Ontario (Waterloo).

In the U19 division, only Laurentides (QC) and Team Alberta (Calgary Rogue) remain undefeated. Laurentides beat Team PEI (Wave) 9-1 and downed previously undefeated Nepean Ravens 6-4. Team Alberta downed CORA (Ottawa) 9-2 and beat previously undefeated Team Saskatchewan (Regina Bandits) 8-1. Megane Fortin (Laurentides) shot to the top of the leading scorers list in the U19 division with 20 points, after picking up nine points in today’s two games.

Forty-five teams from across the country are competing for national titles in the U16 and U19 divisions, as well as the National Ringette League championship title. Games are taking at Credit Union Place in Summerside, Bell Aliant Centre in Charlottetown, APM Centre in Cornwall and Pownal Sports Centre in Alexandra. Competition in all divisions started today and gold medal finals in all three divisions take place on Saturday, April 13 (U16 at 10:00 ADT in Summerside, U19 at 13:00 ADT in Charlottetown, and NRL at 15:00 ADT in Charlottetown). All-stars and the NRL Annual Awards will be announced at the closing ceremony on Saturday night in Charlottetown.
