Sweden opens World Ringette Championships with 23-2 win over the Czech Republic

Mississauga, ON – November 29, 2017 – In today’s opening game of the 2017 World Ringette Championships in Mississauga, Sweden crushed the Czech Republic 23-2. My Nilsson contributed six goals and four assists for Sweden, while Anna Norrbom posted four goals and four assists. Sarah Esmail, who lives in Richmond Hill, picked up a hat trick and an assist and was awarded player of the game for Sweden.

Sweden, Czech Republic and USA are competing in the Presidents’ Pool of the world championships, which consists of a full round-robin series followed by a semi-final game on December 2 and a final game on December 3, when the President’s Trophy will be awarded.

Junior national teams from Canada and Finland will compete in the Junior Pool, which starts tomorrow. Team Canada will look to defend the world title they won at the last world championships, in a best two-out-of-three series against Team Finland.

Senior national teams from Canada and Finland will compete in the Sam Jacks Pool, which also starts tomorrow. Team Finland will look to defend the world title they have held for the last five championship events, in a best two-out-of-three series against Team Canada.
