2025 World Ringette Championships – Day 1

Kerava, Finland – November 4th, 2025 – The 2025 World Ringette Championships kicked off today at Energiahall in Kerava.

The first day of exhibition games kicked off with the Senior National Team’s first game since the 2022 event, which was held in Espoo, Finland. Both the Senior and Junior (U21) National teams saw action against Finland.

The Senior National Team came out strong, opening the scoring early in the first period. Britney Snowdon (Moncton, NB) had the first goal, with Manon Vautour (Dieppe, NB) and Marie-Pier Blanchard (Sainte-Julie, QC) assisting. A few minutes later, Emily Chénier (Gatineau, QC) scored her first goal as a senior national team member, and nabbed a second in the third quarter. Similarly, Vail Ketsa (Sturgeon County, AB) scored her first goal in the senior program in the third quarter, with Laurence Larocque (Carignan, QC) scoring Canada’s fifth goal of the game. Marie-Pier Blanchard scored Canada’s final goal of the game quickly in the fourth. Ultimately Canada came up short, with a final score of 9-6 Finland. Laurie St-Pierre was the goaltender for this match up. Anyone watching – whether one of the hundreds who came out in person, or those online, can attest that it was a fast-paced feisty game, with each team digging deep every second. Vail Ketsa was named the game MVP for Canada.

Following that excitement, the Junior National Team met the Finnish Junior National Team in competition. Sophie Daigle (Dieppe, NB) started in net and Charlotte Anderson (Ajax, ON) had Canada’s first goal in the first period. After half, Julia Harvie (Surrey, BC) went into the net, and a battle commenced with Finland and Canada trading goals. In the fourth quarter, Tessa Galandy (Strathmore, AB) scored at 4:30, and Charlotte Anderson picked up a second at 11:30. When the foghorn sounded to end the game, Finland U21 came out on top by a score of 5-3. Alyssa Perreault was named the game MVP for Canada.

The World Ringette Championships are structured so Canada will play two exhibition games, on November 4 in Kerava and November 6 in Helsinki, and two Championship games in Lahti, Finland on November 8 and 9. The Kerava and Helsinki locations were chosen by the local organizing committee to celebrate the vibrant ringette communities in those cities.

The Senior National Team competes in the Sam Jacks Pool, named for the Canadian who founded ringette in 1963. The Junior National Team competes in the Juuso Wahlsten pool, named for the man who brought ringette to Finland in the late 1970s. The USA, Sweden, and Czech Republic compete in the President’s Pool division.

You can watch the World Ringette Championship Exhibition Games on pay-per-view on ringette.tv, and Championship Weekend (Nov 8-9) free on CBC Sports YouTube.
