2025 World Ringette Championships – Day 5
Lahti, Finland – November 8th, 2025 – The first games of Championship weekend took place today, and Canada played two tight, incredibly competitive games at the 2025 World Ringette Championships.
The U21 Junior National Team was on the ice first, facing off against Finland at Wemasto Arena, where a packed house brought an incredible atmosphere to all 60 minutes.
Canada’s Tessa Galandy (Strathmore, AB) struck first to make it 1-0 Canada, but Finland responded shortly after. In the second, Dylan Pighin (Water Valley, AB) scored four minutes in, the last goal of the first half. Finland would go on to score three more goals in the second half, leaving the final score as 4-2 Finland, despite hustle and grit from the red and white. Goaltender Aeva Lott (Red Deer, AB) played all four quarters, and made some outstanding saves. The MVP of the game was Tessa Galandy for Canada. Canada needs to win their second game on Sunday in order to advance the Championship to overtime.
The Senior National Team played a competitive, close game against the Senior Finnish team. Wemasto Arena was packed, with synchronized chants and a strong Canadian fan contingent.
Laurie St-Pierre (Boucherville, QC) started in net and held the Finns to a scoreless first quarter, and Lauren Henderson (St. Albert, AB) scored Canada’s first goal of the game in the second, tying it at one-all. The teams traded goals in the third, with Finland striking first, which was answered by Dailyn Zimmer (Lacombe, AB) a minute later. Finland scored again to end the third at 3-2 Finland. In the fourth, Finland would extend their lead with a short-handed goal, and the final score was 4-2 Finland. Canada’s Laurie St-Pierre was their MVP, with 48 saves.
In order to win the World Championship, Canada needs to win their next game. If Finland wins or ties, they will win with more points. If Canada wins, the tiebreak is as follows: one 15-minute tiebreak period will be fully played. The team with the most goals at the end of the period wins. If there is a tie, successive sudden victory overtime periods of the same 15-minute duration will be played until someone scores.
The last of Canada’s World Ringette Championship Weekend games (Nov 9) are free to watch on CBC Sports YouTube in Canada.
