How the 2025 National Teams Came Together
Lahti, FI– At 2025 World Ringette Championships, 59 athletes will don the maple leaf and prepare to represent Canada in Lahti, Finland, on the World stage . First held in 1990, the ringette’s premiere international event now features three divisions, an international development festival, and more than 200 athletes from five participating countries (Canada, Finland, USA, Sweden, Czechia).
During this National Team cycle, U18, U21, and Senior Team Canada hopefuls from across the country converged on weekend tryouts and camps, seeking to earn one of the elusive spots. But while the roster reflects 59 names, so many more people, teams, and factors have contributed to their success. Today, we would like to celebrate the programs that have contributed to the success of our Senior and Junior National Teams.
It Takes A Village
A Team Canada athlete is not born overnight. Each athlete is a result of years, even decades, of support from family and friends, coaches, and programs who have impacted their performance and training.
Below, see a visual of where our athletes come from in Canada. From their earliest teams (Hello Bow View U7 Ice Crystals!) to the National Ringette League teams they play on now – athletes have identified their current teams, U19 program, as well as their youth ringette association.
High Performance Pathway
Another interesting aspect of these teams is the previous involvement in other High Performance Programs:
→ 13 of 19 athletes have previously been a member of the Senior National Team program;
→ 16 of 39 athletes have previously been a member of the Junior National Team program;
→ 9 of 39 athletes have previously been a part of a U18 Development program;
→ 5 athletes have previously been part of a La Relève U17 Development program;
→ 18 athletes have previously represented their province at the Canada Winter Games;
→ All 39 athletes currently play on a National Ringette League team.

As we touch down in Finland – thank you to all those who have shaped us on our journey. We wouldn’t be here without you!
