Ottawa to Host Canadian Ringette Championships for Second Consecutive Year, Strengthening Sport Tourism Impact

Ottawa, ON — Ottawa will once again welcome the country’s top ringette athletes as the Canadian Ringette Championships return to the nation’s capital for a second consecutive year. The back-to-back hosting opportunity reinforces Ottawa’s reputation as a premier sport tourism destination, while highlighting the significant economic and community benefits that major sporting events bring to the National Capital Region.

The 2025 and 2026 Canadian Ringette Championships mark the first time that Ringette Canada has hosted the event in the same city in consecutive years. Ottawa’s strong local host committee, along with the support of the Government of Ontario and Ottawa Tourism, has helped bring this national championship to life in the nation’s capital.

Sport tourism not only raises a destination’s profile, encourages repeat visitation, and fosters community pride, but it also delivers substantial economic and social benefits to communities. Across Canada, sport tourism generates approximately $6.8 billion in annual visitor spending, supporting millions of trips each year tied to sporting events.

Sporting events attract athletes, families, and fans who spend money on hotels, restaurants, transportation, and local attractions, providing an important boost to local businesses and supporting jobs in the tourism and hospitality sectors. These events also showcase host cities to visitors, encouraging future travel while promoting healthy, active lifestyles.

Ottawa has a proven track record of successfully hosting major sporting events that drive visitor spending and generate tens of millions of dollars in economic activity. Hosting the Canadian Ringette Championships in consecutive years allows organizers to build on operational success, deepen partnerships with volunteers and community organizations, and further enhance the experience for athletes, officials, and fans.

Beyond the economic impact, the event also supports the continued growth of women’s sport in Canada and inspires young athletes throughout the region. By welcoming the national championship once again, Ottawa continues to strengthen its role in supporting sport participation, community pride, and the next generation of Canadian athletes.
