Ringette Canada reaches record registration numbers, announces new president and board appointments

Ottawa, Ontario – November 7, 2018 – Ringette Canada today released its player registration numbers for the 2017-2018 season and is pleased to report that the number of registered ringette players in Canada is at an all-time high – 31,168. The growing Canadian ice sport saw the biggest increases in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, with Alberta and Saskatchewan also achieving noteworthy increases.

“This is an exciting time for ringette in Canada. Athletes have many options to excel in sport across this country and reaching this significant milestone speaks volumes to what ringette has to offer,” said Natasha Johnston, executive director, Ringette Canada. “This milestone could not be achieved without the ongoing hard work, dedication and commitment of our provincial and regional partners. This is something our entire ringette community can be proud of.”

The national sport organization also announced the appointment of Angie Milbury as its new president and the appointment of three new board members – Beverly Davis, Marcia Morris and Mike Taylor. Darrell Liebrecht has been re-elected to the board as a director at large for a second term and Sarah Bernard-Lacaille has been re-elected as the athlete director. “Our newest board appointments represent the addition of four individuals who bring valuable knowledge and expertise to the Ringette Canada table,” added Johnston. “We look forward to having Angie, Beverly, Marcia and Mike complement the already solid group we have governing our growing sport.”

Angie Milbury takes over the role of president from Daniel Dussault (Montreal, QC) after he completed two consecutive terms as president with the organization. Angie has extensive background in ringette, having been involved in the sport in many capacities as a player, coach, official and administrator. Angie is no stranger to the Ringette Canada table, for the past three years she has served on the Ringette Canada Board of Directors, was a member of the Ringette Canada nominations committee in 2016, was the lead on Ringette Canada’s Client Registration and Management System project during the 2016-2017 season, and was a member of the Strategic Planning Committee in 2018. Angie served as the vice chair and VP Administration when Fredericton hosted the 2013 Canadian Ringette Championships.

“It’s a great honor to be elected as president of Ringette Canada and to be part of a leadership team that is committed to work collaboratively with our partners to continue to grow ringette upon the excellent foundation already established for ringette in Canada,” said Angie Milbury, president, Ringette Canada. “I am inspired by what ringette embodies as a sport for life, backed by an organization that values true-sport principles, excellence, collaboration, respect and accountability to provide a safe, fun and positive sport experience for all participants at all levels.”

The three other new members bring valuable core competencies to the Ringette Canada board. Marcia Morris has extensive involvement in various sports organizations and has broad marketing and strategic planning experience. Beverly Davis brings valuable experience with in-depth policy, strategic planning and governance, and she is also bilingual and has had important bilateral provincial experience. Mike Taylor has a human resources background and extensive leadership with not-for-profits, and he also brings accounting and committee experience to the table.
