Ringette Canada to host second High Performance Challenge Cup

September 11, 2018 – This past July, Ringette Canada hosted a very successful High Performance Challenge Cup in Blainville, Quebec. The High Performance Challenge Cups are three-day events hosted with the intention of bringing in the top Senior National Team prospects together to train, compete and learn about Ringette Canada’s high performance programs and philosophies. The goal is to increase the number of High Performance athletes involved within Canada’s National Team Program. The inaugural event saw 41 athletes, our entire senior national team staff, six high performance development coaches, one high performance coach mentor, eight officials and two officiating mentors in attendance.

“The July Challenge Cup was a great event that allowed athletes from across the country to compete and learn in a high performance ringette environment. It’s events like this that help our athletes develop and play at the highest level,” remarked Allison Biewald, current national team athlete. “It is always a very humbling experience to play with/against the great talent that has been a part of high performance programs in the past or are coming up through the rankings. Although it is challenging, both mentally and physically, you never regret playing alongside the best players in Canada and learning from knowledgeable coaches. I had a great experience and hope to be part of these events in the future!”

From November 2-4, Ringette Canada will host a second High Performance Challenge Cup in Gatineau, Quebec. Up to 60 athletes will be invited to participate (invites will be sent this week, September 10-14). As with the inaugural Challenge Cup, the November event will also include coaching and officiating development opportunities. Information on these opportunities will be shared once they are finalized.

While participation in the Challenge Cups is not mandatory for eligibility for selection to Team Canada, these events are highly valued by Team Canada staff both as important scouting and evaluation opportunities, critical training opportunities for athletes to gain valuable game experience in a highly competitive environment, as well as opportunities for eventual Team Canada members to gel as lines and become familiar with various Team Canada systems.
